CTSI

Institute or Center: CTSI
Information: The UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) has the overarching aim of achieving a major re-engineering of clinical and translational research, training, and public outreach. Fully attuned to the fundamental tenets of the NIH Roadmap CTSA initiative . The changes are explicitly designed to eliminate barriers and enhance collaboration and growth among the basic, biomedical, clinical, and population-based sciences so as to accelerate the pace and increase the volume of scientific discoveries and their translations to new, innovative tools and practices in human disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Under the auspices of the UCLA Center for the Health Sciences, the UCLA CTSI is composed of four partner institutions:

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM). As a partner institution, the DGSOM is leading a UCLA campuswide initiative involiving 7 professional schools. One of the top ten medical schools in the country, DGSOM fulfills its four-fold mission of education, research, patient care, and public service through the efforts of more than 2,000 full-time faculty members and 1,000 active investigators, many of whom have received the highest national and international honors.

The Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (Harbor-LA BioMed) is affiliated with both the DGSOM and the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. The Harbor-UCLA Medical Center draws on a catchment area with a projected population of about 3 million residents, 0.55 million of whom are below the poverty level. LA BioMed has an annual budget of over $73 million (with $65 million from research grants and contracts) and currently supports more that 1,000 research studies from 142 active investigators.

The Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Cedars-Sinai).

The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (Drew University).
