Research Interests
The objective of our research is to determine the chemical basis for biological responses to external chemicals such as therapeutic agents and toxic chemicals. We are currently studying air pollution components to determine the chemical reactions involved in the exacerbation of diseases such as asthma, stroke and Parkinson’s disease. In these studies, exhaust from diesel trucks and automobiles is collected and the relationship between its chemical properties and cellular responses determined, using procedures we have developed specifically for this purpose. This research has been funded by the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences and local and state air regulatory agencies.
